The desert delight

The development along the corniche on Breakwater Island in the city of Abu Dhabi is conceived as a symbolic gateway welcoming the world to the United Arab Emirats.

The design for the central building of 50,000 m2 includes offics, apartments, retail shops, restaurants, a gallery and business center.

Very simply our design is a translation of the site’s identity : the curved lines of the desert ar applied as an artificial landscape sculpting the building’s simple volume. A vast hovering canopy of geometrics motifs lifts the building.

From the marble ground plane to define a grand covered public plazza. This urban oasis of filtered natural light is sprinkled with roses ans palm trees and serves as the forecourt to the boutiques, events and exhibition spaces.

Carved from the building center one discovers a monumental ovular atrium : we discover the sky like a surprise at 25m high, through the palm leaves.

The sculpted roof form echoes the desert dunes, and like a nomadic encampment of iconic architectural volume, contains a panoramic restaurant, a spa and a cantilevering swimming pool with views toward the city, the corniche and the sea.

As a night in the desert, everything stops in the beauty of all that is eternal : in searching the stars for direction, in watching the sea.
